Well folks, my last post from Greece is here, looking back on my trip to Santorini. It’s crazy to me to think that was almost a year ago – feels like yesterday!
My trip to Greece started in Athens for three days, Mykonos for three days, Ios for four days, Santorini for four days and then two more days in Athens. Santorini was the last island on my tour and actually felt like the longest leg of the trip. I am going to be very honest here: I don’t feel like Santorini isn’t all everyone makes it out to be. Yes, it’s beautiful. Yes, the sunsets are amazing. Yes, the village of Oia is adorable. You know those beautiful white-washed pictures you’ve seen? They’re overly edited. Those beautiful hotel rooms with pools in your suite? They are very pricey. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Santorini is misrepresented in most of the media we digest. Yes, Oia and Firostefani are beautiful, romantic towns with breathtaking sunsets and to-die-for hotels and restaurants. What we aren’t told is how that is such a small part of the island. There is so much more to see and do!
I traveled alone and on a budget, so I stayed in a small hotel in Firostefani that faced the east – not the side that gets photographed. It served it’s purpose, the staff was friendly and my room was massive, but it wasn’t the stuff of Instagram dreams. I did, however, splurge on a few meals. My first night I chatted up the waiter, ordering three courses based off recommendations he’d made. He was so happy to serve me he brought me free food!
I tried to enjoy most of what Santorini had to offer (leaving things for next time of course!), but it was a very different experience than what I think people expect. I was not on a honeymoon or romantic vacation and I wasn’t there for the Redbull parkour competition, so I wouldn’t say I was the target demographic. That parkour competition was crazy though. I was there where they shot all those pictures! Anywho.
Here’s a quick photo diary of my trip. I say quick because I have easily 100 more pictures, but these were my favorite. Apparently I forgot to photograph my food here?!?!
Full disclosure: The following sunset pictures are 100% unedited from my iPhone 6. It was a cloudy day and still the sunset was beautiful! These were taken atop the Kastro walls / Oia castle.
So. Yes, I enjoyed Santorini. Not as much as Mykonos, but still. I would love to come back on some kind of romantic vacation or even fun girls trip in the future, but we would venture more than just Oia.
Hope you enjoyed these photos. If you’ve been, tell me how you liked it!

I always wanted to go to Santorini, but haven´t done it yet. Seeing your pictures and reading your post lets my desire grow even more 🙂
Thank you for reading! I’m glad you like the post. It’s definitely a beautiful place I recommend everyone visit at least once.
