I’m not entirely sure when street art became so popular that local governments began asking for it, but I’m happy that’s where we are these days. It seems every time I look up a city guide I find tons of posts including murals and painted walls, so when I was moving to Nashville, I thought I’d look up the street art scene here!
Fortunately new murals pop up all the time, but sadly some of them get vandalized too. These are all accurate as of August 2019!
The “I Believe in Nashville” mural is basically a landmark at this point. Someone vandalized it by pouring black tar over it and DXCV Industries had it repainted within the week. It was actually a pretty big deal – Nashville was infuriated.
A little further down 12 South is the very pretty flower mural, complete with a ‘place 2 kiss!’ It seems cheesy but you’d be surprised how helpful that is!
Just opposite the flower mural is the Make Music Not War mural, which completely represents the artistic, musical vibe we have here.
Heading a bit east are the now super-famous #WhatLiftsYou wings by Kelsey Montague. She travels the world creating interactive street art, painting wings catering to each location. You could even plan a road trip just in search of her wings! These wings are very Nashville, with the guitars, cowboy boots and hats drawn in.
Crossing over the Cumberland River into East Nashville are several other signs. The rainbow mural (also by DXCV industries) takes up the entire wall of it’s building. Insider tip: go on the weekends, cars are parked there for work during the week.
I personally love the East Nashville sign, mostly because I love typography and how they used the letters in a different way. This one is definitely underrated but I love it!
Last but not least is the glyph/symbols cave next to Three Brothers Coffee on West End. It can get a bit dingy when it rains, but it is a very cool spot!
I love Nashville murals and the culture they bring, I even created a separate post with more here.
