Despite what you might think, it isn’t as easy to find good vegan food in St. Pete, Florida. I used to search “vegan” in Google maps, but was often disappointed. Not only does it seem like there aren’t many options, but the search results won’t show places that don’t label themselves vegan but have vegan options! So, as I’ve been exploring the vegan food scene in St. Pete, I’m going to share some good options for you!
1. Cider Press Cafe
Cider Press is one of the only all-vegan places in St. Petersburg, and it’s a classic. It’s incidentally one of the first places I ever ate when I came here, back before I was vegan. Now I take all my non-vegan friends to show them just how good plant-based food can be! I’ve had several of their burgers and their biscuits and gravy – you can’t go wrong here. I will admit, it’s a bit on the pricier side for a casual restaurant, but you’re paying for amazing service and quality food.
2. Karma Juice Bar and Eatery
Karma is a smaller cafe with a smaller menu, mostly salads, and sandwiches. The salads can all be vegan and I think for the most part you can veganize the sandwiches as well. I’ve had the veggie wrap and it was surprisingly filling! It actually started as a juice bar and acai shop and is a great stop for a smoothie or acai bowl for a delicious, fresh breakfast.
3. Naked Farmer
Naked Farmer is a really cool concept because they focus solely on using locally sourced ingredients and keeping things really simple and natural. (You can read more about their processes here). Because things are locally sourced, their menus are seasonal. They always have a vegan option, and you can make your own plate with the ingredients you prefer. Their summer 2021 menu was delicious, I can’t wait to see what fall brings!
4. Bodega
I’d never been to Bodega because they don’t have any marketing around having vegan or even vegetarian options, so I just assumed they didn’t. Well I’m pleased to tell you I’m wrong! Bodega refers to their food as “Latin street food” and it’s sort of an amalgamation of different Latin and Caribbean foods. I’ve only tried the tempeh plate so far and it was pretty tasty! It was the perfect level of spicy for me, but it was a little on the dry side for my taste. (Nothing a lime wouldn’t fix next time!) Still, it’s nice to be able to enjoy a vegan option with people looking to also enjoy their pork and beef.
5. Love Food Central
Love Food Central is one of the first restaurants people recommend to me when they find out I’m vegan. The crazy thing is I haven’t made it yet. They open for shorter hours and every time I think to go they happen to be closed, so it hasn’t happened. Their entire menu is vegan and gluten free (which is also great for me!) so I really need to make more of an effort. While it’s the only place on this list I haven’t been to yet, I’m adding it because friends who’ve been absolutely love it.
I’m hoping to continue exploring and adding to this list as time goes by!
